Weekend Trip to Eastern North Carolina an Enjoyable Experience
November 11, 2003

Friday afternoon was quite an adventure. What happened?

Everything started from the minute I pulled out of the driveway (excluding the terribly late start). As I began the trip, traffic consumed the freeway and it seemed like EVERYONE was going into Walmart, the rare time I needed to get something there.

After that was over, I was finally feeling good about being on the road again, when, not even 45 minutes after having left Walmart, the traffic slowed down and came to a complete stop. Two hours later I began to see children playing on I-40 as thought it was a park. It seemed the devil was pulling every string to keep me from getting out there.

Finally, we started to move again and I started to pick up serious speed. Maybe it was my thrill from driving again or maybe it was just my lack of concentration from enjoying the tapes I was playing, but, somehow, I didn't notice that my fuel was almost empty. About the time I reached Hickory (NC), I finally realized I was in serious trouble. In the end I ran out of gas about 100-200 FEET from a Citgo station down the road. I walked to it and bought a carton and carted the gas to my car and put in enough to get to the Citgo and there I filled up.

In the end, I found my way into the little community of Kinston, North Carolina at about 10:00 pm. God was watching out for me even though it seemed like I was never going to fulfill my ministry for the weekend. After seeing the impact of the churches, however, I now understand why the devil seemed out to stop me and I am thankful that God watched over me through an interesting turn of events on the road.

What was unique or memorable about the concert series this past weekend?

This morning concert in Kinston was one of the warmest atmospheres I have ever experienced in a concert. Although the concert began at the crack of dawn (for me) at 9:15 am, although the sound system was terrible, and although part of the microphone stand poked up as I sang into it, I felt the Spirit of God in that sanctuary in a way I never knew could exist. It was so incredibly powerful and it consumed the people and the music. What a blessing!

The evening concert in Jacksonville had a hurry-up start because I miscalculated how long it would take to drive there. I scrambled to get everything ready, but found a lively group and excitement awaiting once things got underway. Everyone was so helpful and kind and I really appreciated their friendly "bond." I also discovered that some of the members in the church really like to "heavily" discuss some interesting theological topics. I listened in with a lot of interest and was glad to see such a hunger for understanding God's word.

Why did you take your Playstation 2 on the trip? Not enough video games at home?
I normally play a clip from the Melashenko Family video from Canada before my evening concerts. However, I had sold my very last VHS copy and had forgotten to take the product off my web site. So, I had two options--either find a way to show the video on DVD or else eliminate the segment all together. Since a Playstation 2 can play DVD's, I used it instead. The kids got a chuckle out of seeing the PS2 logo on the big church screen in the sanctuary.
