Biography

Matthew Jackson Melashenko is thirty (30) years old, born July 28, 1981 to Eugene and Terri Beth Melashenko in San Luis Obispo, California. He currently resides in Days Creek, Oregon, teaching computer technology and math courses at Milo Adventist Academy. His education includes a bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University in middle grades education. He has also studied several other subjects, including: computer systems administration, music, and religion. These were during his early years of college at Southern Adventist University.

Matt began piano lessons when he was only seven years old (thanks to encouragement from his mother). He won first place in the Dutchland Keyboard Competition in Pennsylvania (age 9) and was privileged to play [Vladimir] Horowitz's piano in the rotunda building at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania soon after. When Matt began high school (age 15), he began singing in a variety of choral groups, thus developing his singing voice. In college (age 18), Matt continued to sing more and also took numerous music courses, thus developing and preparing him for his work in music today.

During his third year of college at Southern (age 20), Matt had a very powerful experience in which God changed and even saved his life. He now spends much of his time as a performer, songwriter, and recording artist. Matt has discovered that being around people and sharing music is his calling. Some of his other hobbies include computers, entertainment (TV/movies), games, literature, music, relationships, religion, sports, and technology.

Here's a little tidbit about Matt's family:

  • Cindy, wife, is a homemaker originally from Pendleton, Oregon. She holds an associate's degree in early childhood education from Blue Mountain Community College. She loves children and prides herself on being an excellent parent and a loving spouse. Cindy also enjoys camping, scrapbooking, horseback riding, and Star Trek.
  • Kayla, daughter, is a sweet 7-year-old girl who loves swimming, princesses, and watching Wow Wow Wubbzy. Technically, Kayla is a step-daughter. Several years ago, Kayla's father abandoned the family. Now, Kayla is a blessing from God and a permanent part of the Melashenko family.
  • Kirk, son, was born May 7, 2008 in Asheville, North Carolina. At the time of writing, he is almost 3 years old and his hobbies include: playing with the potty, giving a high-five, repeating every word you say, sucking his thumb (when will it ever end), and humming "When a Mother/Who Comes Running".
  • Eugene, father, is a retired minister for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Since Eugene has been in church ministry for over 30 years, he decided to take his retirement early to rest and improve his health. He now resides in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. His most recent churches were in Morgantown, WV and Oakland, MD. Eugene helps his wife (Terri Beth) in her work and is involved in a local church plant (the Gate).
  • Terri Beth, mother, is a homemaker and a caretaker for Zachary Cowan (Matt's cousin), who is paralyzed with cerebral pulsy and unable to walk, talk, or take care of himself. TB, as she likes to go by, gets paid by the state of North Carolina to provide care and education for his needs. Both she and her sister Lori (Zachary's mother) are in the process of starting an after school program for physically handicapped children. The school will be called "Circle Z Ministry."
  • Tyler, brother, plays the guitar extremely well and recently played in a band called Stereo Jesus. He has worked several years with struggling kids in an after school program run by the Salvation Army. Today, he spends most of his time writing music, studying studio recording and engineering, and doing solo performances across the southeast.
  • Joedy and Lonnie Melashenko are Matt's (illustrious) uncles:
    • Lonnie is the director of spiritual activities for the Kettering Health Network. He is the former director/speaker of the Voice of Prophecy (radio evangelism ministry), which hosted the NET 2003 series, The Voice of Prophecy Speaks, which focused on both prophecy and application to end-time events. Lonnie and his wife Jeannie also hosted a weekly Bible study via satellite called "Exploring the Word."
    • Joedy lives in Biggs, CA and is now retired, after spending many years at the Quiet Hour (evangelism ministry) as the associate speaker and coordinator of youth projects. He has been involved in missions work all around the world. He is also the executive producer of all of the Melashenko Family projects.
